TRAILS: Otley Chevin Forest Park

A short edit of a small lunchtime ride at Otley Chevin Forest Park.

The Chevin provides a great mix of rocky descents and challenging fire road climbs, plus the ‘surprise view’ over Otley and Lower Wharfedale from the top is sensational. The perfect location for a gentle family ride (or walk), or for those that wish to go off the beaten track, there’s some brilliant downhill sections in the woods.

24 hours bikeless and I’ve already got the DTs!

So, my bike is back in the workshop at The Bike Shop, Leeds. After spending hours (and £s) trying to diagnose a creak, it turns out i’ve cracked a rim. Can you believe I missed that?! The mechanic seems to think it’s cracked at the join, so hopefully should just be a warranty job. The only problem is that with it being bank holiday weekend I have to wait until Tuesday for a warranty decision and then even longer to re-build the wheel. Part of me hopes that it’s not a warranty effort and I can just next-day a new wheel online!

I was actually looking forward to getting a lot more time in on the bike as I have just quit my job. I had plans to record as many rides as I could before we get in to the depths of winter, but looks like I’m going to be at least 10 days away from getting out on the trails again and edging ever closer to sub 0°C temperatures and sloppy floored forests. At least I can spend my time wisely by growing my social media following, meticulously planning even better routes, angles and ultimately creating better videos in the long term.

I hope you’ll all join me for the ride!

Otley Chevin

‘ow do?

So, the last ride recording didn’t quite go as planned. A broken camera put paid to the first JGxMTB video being uploaded, but on the plus side, convinced me to upgrade to the GoPro Hero 4 Black edition. Love turning negatives in to positives! On Monday morning I am heading to Otley Chevin to give the new camera its first proper blast.

A short Sunday evening ride around my local trails allowed me to check out the new camera’s quality and I have to say the 4K 30fps mode is outstanding. Looking forward to testing it out on the more technical trails in Otley Chevin and sharing the surprise view with you guys who have never been there before.

Meltham > Saddleworth > Glossop and back.

Tomorrow marks the first recording of a JGxMTB ride.

Riding from Meltham across the Pennine Way to Glossop. Can’t wait to share with you guys the amazing views over Saddleworth Moor. Hopefully the full video will be uploaded by Thursday PM, so make sure you’re following @JGxMTB on Twitter and Instagram to get the link first!

Why?

When I’m not out riding, i’m fannying around with my bike – taking bits off, adding bits on, adjusting tyre pressures and shock PSIs. Basically over the course of the last year and a half, I have become a little obsessed.

‘ow do?

Well, i’m relatively new to mountain biking, but i’ve officially caught the bug! When I’m not out riding, i’m fannying around with my bike – taking bits off, adding bits on, adjusting tyre pressures and shock PSIs. Basically over the course of the last year and a half, I have become a little obsessed. I’ve taught myself (with the help of the amazing GMBN YouTube channel) a lot of maintenance skills and hopefully become a better rider through their skills videos. There’s nothing like being out on the trail and I want to share my amazing experiences with you. Although there’s a multitude of mountain biking related YouTube channels (GMBN, Yeti Cycles, Steel City Media, Atherton Racing, Bike Mag, MBR, Santa Cruz Syndicate, Seth’s Bike Hacks, Red Bull, Vital MTB to name but a few), there are very little showcasing the amazing trails we have in the UK in the same vain as BK:XC does for Northern California or Nate Hills does for Colorado and beyond. My intention is to bring you all along for the ride, offer advice where I can and fundamentally share my passion for riding to a wider audience. Join me for epic rides, honest product reviews and probably a lot of falling off. YEOWW!
